About Senator Padilla
Alex Padilla represents California in the United States Senate. He began serving in January 2021 after being appointed to fill the vacancy created when Kamala Harris became Vice President of the United States. Padilla was subsequently elected by California voters in 2022.
As a United States senator, Padilla represents residents throughout California, including all communities within the RivCo Life coverage area.
Padilla was born and raised in Pacoima in California’s San Fernando Valley. He attended Los Angeles public schools and graduated from San Fernando High School before attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Before joining the U.S. Senate, Padilla served on the Los Angeles City Council, including a period as president of the council. He was later elected to the California State Senate and subsequently served as California Secretary of State.
Senate Committees
Senator Padilla currently serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration.
He also serves on the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, including as Ranking Member of its Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety.
His other committee assignments include the Committee on the Budget, Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Committee on Environment and Public Works.
